Responsibilities:

This role is responsible for expanding Dolby’s leadership in technology for entertainment into new markets. It will focus on the successful adoption and proliferation of Dolby’s audio technologies within as yet un-commercialized areas, while supporting Dolby audio initiatives within broadcast, PC, online content, mobile handset/portable device entertainment, cinema, music, video games and packaged media. Engagement will span the entertainment ecosystem (content creation, distribution and consumer devices). The role will identify, plan and work to bring opportunities from an uncertain or blocked state to one where Dolby can successfully execute. This will entail a variety of tasks in different situations, such as ensuring successful inclusion in industry standards, bringing in new technologies via acquisition, brokering and negotiating technology and strategic business partnerships to enable benefit for Dolby.

Audio technology is the core of Dolby’s business. This role will typically involve close collaboration with a variety of groups within Dolby’s offices around the world and entail operating at both a technical and a commercial level. The position reports to the head of the Audio Business Development group in San Francisco..

The Business Development Group at Dolby has broad responsibilities across all market segments, technologies and geographic regions where the company operates. Every member of the group takes on a thought leadership role across the company, driving and contributing to high-impact projects. Dolby values collaboration as a key technique for success within the group, company and industry.

Supporting business initiatives
- Scout and discover new opportunities for audio within entertainment; analyze potential opportunities and champion these within the company, propose future audio entertainment products from Dolby.
- Identify strategic partners, collaborate with these and manage Dolby’s side of the partnership.
- Create and define business models to support business group activities.
- Support Corporate Development initiatives in the evaluation and planning of potential acquisitions.
- Negotiate complex agreements.

Industry outreach
- Manage Dolby’s participation in standards organizations and industry consortia, where necessary, collaborating with other companies from a technical and commercial perspective.
- Maintain regular contact with key groups and affiliated bodies in the entertainment technology field, participating in technical and/or commercial aspects of their work as needed.
- Present Dolby and Dolby technologies to the industry, media and establish presence at industry events.
- Create new relationships, share or pass on to sales and marketing groups as appropriate.
- Monitor competitor activities and report.
- Promote Dolby’s value to planners and strategists in other organizations in their work to frame new entertainment experiences and their delivery to consumers.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree desirable. A mixture of technical and business education and experience is ideal.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant industry experience in business/strategy development, and/or product development.
- Demonstrated success in developing effective actionable business strategies that have led to measurable business growth.
- Proven track record in negotiating and closing complex deals; Familiarity with IP license agreements and business models.
- Demonstrated success in scouting, championing and developing new audio business opportunities.
- Background in new product development, including demonstrated success in GTM planning and product launching
- Strong finance, analytical, organizational and problem solving skills.
- Experience, including a record of successful influence, in standards setting organizations.
- Ability to work as an individual contributor and collaboratively as appropriate; be an aggressive, competitive, entrepreneur and a team player at the same time showing strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
- Organizational savvy to understand how to get things done in an organization; proven ability to work hands-on and execute many things at once.
- Exercises independent judgment in new areas. Creates formal networks involving coordination among groups. Determines methods for new or special assignments.
- Develops solutions to problems of unusual complexity which require a high degree of ingenuity, creativity, and innovation. Challenges are frequently unique and may serve as precedents.
- Passion for audio
- Some international travel may be required. International travel and work experience desirable.
